The end of this tour, but the start of something else.
This was supposed to be a 10 or 11 month tour, the idea was to come up through Portugal, back into Spain at the top end, France in about June, then back to Blighty, ready for another route and circuit starting middle of July. Best laid plans…and all that, but it’s not going to happen that way. Something’s come up. For medical reasons, I’d rather not go into, we need to return to the UK, back to Norwich asap. Nothing life threatening, but semi-urgent let’s say. We made this decision to turn-tale, just as we got to Faro in Portugal. Nothing much to write about between Seville and Faro really, we left Seville, stopped off at a couple of little towns along the coast of Portugal, got to Faro, then drove back to Seville for one night, Burger & Chips and a pint of black gold.
Then over the course of 6 days, driving north about 300 miles per day, we stopped off at Paris just for a day trip and to visit the Louvre, as Angie has always wanted to see the Mona Lisa. We chose the most direct, motorway route from Seville to Salamanca to San Sebastion, into France, around Bordeaux and on to Paris. Finally Eurotunnel and on to Norwich. A total of 1,700 miles over 6 driving days from Faro in Portugal. Tolls in France on the route were aprox €70, but worth the cost in speed and fuel efficiency.
We stopped off for breakfast and a pint of ‘real draft ale’ in Ashby, Kent (we don’t condone drinking and driving) but the temptation for a pint with your breakfast at 10:30 am was too great. A bit more motorway, M20/M25/M11-A11 and we were home. A complete round trip of 8,000 miles. We had to skip Portugal and France this time round, but they will still be there when we can get to them.
I will come back to this blog when I know more about the future, but we are both toying with the idea of going north, through Denmark-Norway-Sweeden-Finland-Estonia etc. possibly ending in Croatia or Greece (or even Turkey) by Christmas. But first, Angie must be well and ready for it and we have both got loads of work to do on our ‘rent-out’ house. So for now it’s farewell, thanks for reading and being with us so far.
So now for a few photos I up-loaded, but never got around to using…we will be back soon, see ya in a bit…take care.
